Did You Know That Over Half a Million Children in the U.S. Between the Ages of 1 and 5 Have Blood Lead Levels Above 5 Micrograms Per Deciliter - The Reference Level Which the CDC Recommends Public Health Actions Be Initiated? What's Worse is That There Are NO Safe Levels of Lead Exposure, Especially in Children. Exposure to Toxic Amounts of Heavy Metals Can Cause Death (OSHA)

Are you feeling bad and don't know why?
An imbalance of essential minerals or heavy metal toxins can affect your overall wellbeing. You can inquire with your Health Care provider to order this test and process it for you.

  • An inexpensive way to determine the body's level of exposure to various kinds of chemicals
  • Tests for highly toxic substances like lead, arsenic, and mercury.
  • Requires only 0.25g of human hair
  • CLIA-Accredited Laboratory test
  • Quantified detailed results with screenings at microgram/gram levels

So why use human hair as a specimen for this test? Hair is considered an excretory tissue, a part of the body where protein is synthesized. Thus, the elements are integrated into the hair without further equilibration or exchange with other tissues. Unlike other tests which require blood samples and other specimens, this test believes that hair is a temporal record of exposure to toxic elements and valuable substances as well.

The systemic levels of toxic and essential elements found in the human body are the same as the ones measured from scalp hair. Research shows that the human hair is the specimen of choice for various nutrient elements and toxic substances as well.

FAQ's:

  • Why do hair testing for testing for toxin, essential elements and heavy metal exposure?

The hair root is in constant contact with blood vessels, allowing both nutritional and toxic elements to enter the hair shaft continuously as hair grows. In other words, hair analysis reflects long-term exposure to the various elements. This is a significant advantage over urine or blood samples, which only measure the levels from one point in time.

  • What are the toxic elements and how does it affect the body?

There are various toxic elements in the environment. Thirty-one of these substances may be found in the hair if you are exposed to it. Some common examples include: Gadolinium, Titanium, Gold, Tin, Tungsten, Platinum, Bismuth, Zinc, Nickel, Cobalt, Mercury, Lead and Arsenic.

  • What do I need to know about collecting hair follicle sample for heavy metal poisoning & toxic element exposure test?

The human hair specimen should be very dry upon collection. New growth is also needed for best results. A hair that has been bleached, dyed, or permed for the past two months is not qualified to take the test.

  • Is there any specific Shampoo to be used prior to collection of hair for the heavy metal and toxic element exposure?

Exposure to chemicals and other harmful elements is common to the human hair. To remove contamination from hair care products and other shampoos, use the Johnson and Johnson No More Tears shampoo.

  • How the essential element imbalances in body treated?

Element imbalances usually are corrected with a diet change and/or nutritional supplements. Ask your doctor and your medical service provider.

  • What can cause a mineral (essential element) imbalance in human body?

There are many factors to take into consideration, such as: Diet - Improper diet through high intake of refined and processed foods, alcohol and fad diets can all lead to a chemical imbalance. Even the nutrient content of a "healthy" diet can be inadequate, depending upon the soil in which the food was grown or the method in which it was prepared. Stress - Physical or emotional stress can deplete the body of many nutrients while also reducing the capability to absorb and utilize many nutrients. Medications - Both prescription and over-the-counter medications can deplete the body stores of nutrient minerals and/or increase the levels of toxic metals. These medications include diuretics, antacids, aspirin and oral contraceptives. Pollution - From adolescence through adulthood the average person is continually exposed to a variety of toxic metal sources such as cigarette smoke (cadmium), hair dyes (lead), hydrogenated oils (nickel), anti-perspirants (aluminum), dental amalgams (mercury and cadmium), copper and aluminum cookware and lead-based cosmetics. These are just a few of the hundreds of sources which can contribute to nutrient imbalances and adverse metabolic effects. Nutritional Supplements - Taking incorrect supplements or improper amounts of supplements can produce many vitamin and mineral excesses and/or deficiencies, contributing to an overall biochemical imbalance. Inherited Patterns - A predisposition toward certain mineral imbalances, deficiencies and excesses can be inherited from parents. If any of these accumulate in more than the required levels, it can bring about several physical or cognitive changes that are definitely deleterious to your health.

Sample Collection

  • A paper scale is included in this kit to assist you in collecting the proper quantity of hair. Set it up according to the directions printed on the scale.
  • Cut samples of hair from the back of the head (see illustration). Use a stainless steel scissors, cut hair as close to the scalp as possible. It is best if small amounts of hair are cut from 5 or 6 areas in the back of the head.
  • As each piece of hair is cut from the head, save only 1-inch (2.5 cm) of the hair closest to the scalp (new growth). Cut off and discard the rest. Place the saved hair on the scale.
  • Keep cutting and adding this hair to the scale card until the scale tips. This scale is designed to collect about 0.25 grams of hair.
  • Label the plastic bag with the patient’s name, doctor’s name, and the date collected.
  • Put the hair into the plastic bag and seal.
  • Complete the requisition form and mail
  • Place the hair specimen bag and the completed requisition form into the mailing envelope and mail to the Laboratory.
